Cyber-criminals are increasingly focussing on smartphones and tablets. Over 50 per cent of Android malware is already targeting financial operations.
There is a rapid increase in smartphone and tablet use for e-banking functions. Due to Android’s dominant position in the market, it is not surprising that attackers concentrate on developing and spreading malware specifically for this platform.
A recent G-Data analysis has shown that over 50 per cent of Android is specifically financially motivated!
To avoid your smartphone or tablet becoming infected, you should only ever install apps from trustworthy sources. The Android option «Allow installation of apps from sources other than the Play Store» should be disabled as a matter of course (this is also the default setting). If possible, you should also protect your smartphone or tablet with antivirus software and a firewall. Please also make sure your operating system and all apps installed are always up-to-date.
